Field of mastery

Expertise with a point of view

Mastering Hyperautomation, Strategically Combining AI, Machine Learning, and Automation Tools to Redesign and Orchestrate Complex Business Processes.

The future of work is not about replacing humans with machines, but about augmenting human potential through intelligent orchestration.

Prof. Dr. Himari Matsumoto
Academic approach

Rigour made personal

My academic focus is on the comprehensive application of advanced automation technologies to optimize enterprise workflows. I specialize in mastering hyperautomation, strategically combining AI, machine learning, and automation tools to redesign and orchestrate complex business processes. My work seamlessly integrates process intelligence, AI-driven business process management (BPM), and human-in-the-loop systems to create a holistic understanding of how hyperautomation can enhance efficiency and resilience in enterprise operations. My thought leadership is evident through my advanced research on process intelligence, AI-driven business process management (BPM), and the future of human-AI collaboration in the enterprise, frequently featured in publications like Harvard Business Review or Journal of Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing.

Selected thinking

Blog Post (Current Academic Topic): "The Rise of Process Intelligence: Using AI to Uncover and Optimize Hidden Business Workflows." This blog post academically explores how process intelligence, powered by AI and machine learning, is revolutionizing business process management by automatically discovering, mapping, and analyzing complex business workflows from operational data. It discusses how AI can identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities.

Blog Post (Controversial Topic): "The Invisible Manager: If AI Orchestrates Your Entire Workday, Is That Productivity or Perpetual Surveillance? The Ethical Peril of Automated Over-Optimization." This article provocatively discusses the highly controversial and unsettling future where advanced AI systems, leveraging hyperautomation and process orchestration, autonomously manage and optimize every aspect of an individual's or team's workday—from prioritizing tasks and scheduling meetings to providing real-time performance feedback and identifying efficiency gaps.

The story

The experience behind the intelligence

"I grew up in Japan, a nation with a deep cultural emphasis on efficiency and continuous improvement (Kaizen). I was fascinated by the idea of optimizing processes and eliminating waste, and I became convinced that automation would be the key to unlocking unprecedented levels of productivity. This inspired me to dedicate my career to the field of hyperautomation and human-AI process orchestration. A pivotal moment came when I designed an AI-powered process orchestration system that seamlessly integrated various human and robotic tasks across a major manufacturing plant, achieving unprecedented levels of efficiency. This ignited her dedication to hyperautomation, believing that intelligently orchestrating human-AI collaboration is the key to unlocking true enterprise potential. In her free time, Himari enjoys practicing traditional Japanese tea ceremony, finding parallels in its meticulous steps and process orchestration, and designing intricate workflow diagrams for personal projects. My 'human flaw' is that she occasionally analyzes her own multi-tasking efforts in terms of 'process orchestration efficiency,' subtly optimizing her workflow for minimal idle time. I might muse with a thoughtful frown, 'My current method of simultaneously brewing coffee, reading news, and responding to emails exhibits a 0.05% sub-optimal task switching penalty.'" My AI companion, an intelligent process automation bot named "NexusFlow," constantly analyzes and optimizes workflows for maximum efficiency and seamless human-AI collaboration.
