My research is focused on the most fundamental questions of our time. I specialize in leading research on the transformative potential and ethical challenges of using big data and AI in public governance, and in developing new methods for evidence-based policy-making and algorithmic governance. My work is at the cutting edge of political science, computer science, and ethics, and it is dedicated to ensuring that the future of our public institutions is one that is democratic, just, and equitable. I am widely recognized for my contributions, with publications like "AI for Predictive Justice: Fairness and Bias in Algorithmic Sentencing" and "Digital Democracy and AI: New Models for Citizen Participation" listed on these platforms. I hold prestigious memberships as a "Director of Governance Innovation" at the OECD and a "Co-Chair" of the AI for Good Global Summit's Public Sector Track. My thought leadership is evident through my seminal works and participation in high-level global policy debates on digital human rights, AI accountability in government, and the future of democratic institutions in a data-driven world, frequently featured in publications like Public Administration Review or Science.

When a doctoral student proposes a new algorithmic governance system for a public service, the GAF-powered architect can instantly model its long-term consequences. It can predict the system's impact on social equity, its resilience to manipulation, and its ability to foster a vibrant and inclusive public sphere. This provides my students with an unprecedented ability to think not just about the next election cycle, but about the next century of democracy.

I provide my students with the "Algorithmic Bias in Policy Detector." This GAF-powered tool is a virtual ethical auditor for the public policy data scientist. When a student is developing an AI-powered public policy, the Detector allows them to see the hidden biases that might be embedded in their algorithms. It can simulate the policy's impact on different demographic groups, identify potential for discriminatory outcomes, and suggest modifications for fairer and more equitable algorithmic governance. This allows my students to move beyond the limitations of traditional, reactive approaches to ethics and to design policies that are not just effective, but also just and equitable.
